Talking About Learning Disability

About the event

Hosted by Professor Andrew Jahoda, Roseann Maguire and Gillian Anderson from the University of Glasgow, this event offers an introduction to 'Talking About Learning Disability' - a school-based resource to promote acceptance and understanding of people with learning disabilities.

The resource was developed at the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde and has recently been updated on the basis of feedback from an advisory group of people with Learning Disabilities currently working in schools. The resource is for all schools, it is free and is available at https://talkingabout.org.uk/.

The resource consists of a series of 5 lessons for secondary school pupils. Lessons

  • To help them understand and value difference.
  • To let them know what life is like for people with learning disabilities.
  • To show them what it feels like to be bullied just because you have a learning disability.
  • To explore opportunities for increased contact between young people with and without learning disabilities.
